Intuitive APIs and Developer Education

API standards, from SOAP to REST to GraphQL, have evolved to meet the needs of API providers and developer consumers. They make APIs “intuitive” by making them predictable. When product designs bump up against the constraints of standards, you can choose to force a fit or break from convention and invest in educating developers about your choices.

Bear Douglas is head of developer relations at Slack, where she and her team help developers build more pleasant and productive ways to work. Before Slack, she led the developer relations teams for the mobile and data platforms at Twitter, and worked on native mobile developer relations at Facebook and Parse.
