About
"Bookmarklets" are a way of running JavaScript on a page you don't control. This script creates a post you can edit based on the text you've selected in the page then allows you to post this on Bluesky.
Support
The bookmarklet is supported in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
In Safari on Mac OS, you'll need to use the Develop menu choose Developer Settings⦠and select 'Allow JavaScript from Smart Search field'.
Isn't this risky?
You should be skeptical about providing credentials to any website or app. We address two key concerns as follows.
Our page stealing your credentials: we have no 3rd party scripts at all. Our script simply takes your Bluesky credentials and creates personalised JavaScript that allows you to post a clip from any web page to Bluesky. There's no way for us to send these details to ourselves or anyone else.
Malicious web pages stealing your credentials: the script is written in such a way as to not allow any page it is run on to access the details you enter.
Bluesky has the concept of App Passwords, which you create on Bluesky in the security settings. These give an app like this bookmarklet limited capabilities such as posting, and can be easily deleted where you created them.
