Seb Chan
Seb Chan is the Director and CEO of ACMI, Australia's national museum of screen culture, where he leads the institution at the intersection of media, technology, worldbuilding, and storytelling. Prior to this role, Seb served as ACMI’s and the museum sector’s first Chief Experience Officer, helping to drive the museum’s transformation into a multi-award-winning, multiplatform institution. His earlier work includes leading the digital reinvention of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York and pioneering open access and digital innovation at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. Seb’s career has been recognized internationally across museum, media, and design industries, and before entering the museum world, he had a successful career in electronic and experimental music as a performer, publisher, and producer.
Seb is the current National President of the Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA), a board member of the Tessitura Network (US), and an international advisory board member for the ArtScience Museum (Singapore). He has held advisory roles with institutions such as the National Museum of Australia and the National Heritage Board of Singapore, and was part of the Australian Government’s Gov2.0 Taskforce. An Adjunct Professor at RMIT’s School of Media and Communication, Seb has contributed extensively to museum innovation through research projects, publications, and speaking engagements at over 100 global conferences. An alumnus of the Getty Leadership Institute, Salzburg Global Seminar, and UNSW, he was awarded the UNSW Alumni Award for Art & Culture in 2024.
