What’s beyond the browser: the AI platform shift
We’re at the beginning of a major platform shift. Artificial intelligence is enabling a new kind of computer that upends the entire stack — from how we design interfaces, to how we build and distribute software, to what we even mean by an “app.”
In this session, we’ll explore how AI clients will displace the web and traditional apps, and why it’s urgent that this platform develops in the open. We’ll discuss emerging protocols, and consider what it means to create and publish for an ecosystem that’s still taking shape.
Rupert Manfredi
Rupert is a designer and programmer focused on the future of the web, machine learning, and interfaces, with a mission to give humans more agency over their computers. As CEO of Unternet, he's building a new, flexible and intelligent web client designed to eventually replace the browser - keeping it open-source, standards-based, and user-controlled. Originally from Sydney and now based in San Francisco, he previously worked on the design team at Adept after moving from Australia.
Rupert's experience spans leading technology companies including Mozilla's Innovation Studio, where he built machine learning products and created the LangView library for generative interfaces, and Google Creative Lab, where he developed novel user interfaces using early neural networks. Rupert is an active speaker and researcher, presenting at conferences like Causal Islands and Web Directions, with published research on AI music interfaces and thought leadership on AI's impact on creativity and intellectual property.Retry
