Tragic Design
Those of you who attended our Direction conference in Sydney last year, will recall a great talk by Jonathan Shariat, Tragic Design: The real cost of bad design & how to fix it.
Jonathan’s presentation focused on how bad design can have very real costs outside of just lost revenue, causing physical and emotional harm, social harm, injustice and even death.
He called on us as designers to rise to the challenge to avoid and fix these problems and put our design skills to use for good.
The talk was based on his work co-authoring the book Tragic Design with Cynthia Savard Saucier – and that book has now been published by O’Reilly.
Judging by the content of the talk, this is a must-read for anyone interested in making and keeping professional design ethical, thoughtful and purposeful – and that should be all of us.
You can read more about the book and how to buy it at Tragic Design.
Great reading, every weekend.
We round up the best writing about the web and send it your way each Friday.
