Web Directions Diversity

Support our inclusion initiatives

Working to help make our industry more diverse and inclusive

What's this about?

Professional fields associated with computing and technology more broadly have for many years been significantly less diverse than communities as a whole. Fortunately this is increasingly being recognised as an important challenge to be addressed within the industry, though an enormous amount of work still needs to be done.

At Web Directions we have long taken steps to address inequalities and under representation, on our programs, and in our audiences.

How can we work together for greater industry inclusion?

Web Directions offers scholarships to all our events to make them accessible to people from under represented groups in out industry who would otherwise find it challenging to attend.

Scholarship recipients attend the event like any other attendee and are not identified publicly as a diversity scholarship recipient. Recipients from outside Sydney also have their traveland accomodation covered.

Traditionally, Web Directions, and from time to time diversity scholarship sponsors have covered the cost of attendance, but with this year's larger venue we are looking to expand the program. Taking a leaf from the book of JSConf and CSSConf EU, we're now enabling individuals and companies to purchase 25%, 50% or 100% of a diversity ticket, which we're pricing at 50% of the full ticket price–just $795.

Whether you're attending the conference or not, you can support the attendance by a profesional from an under represented group, and we will (if you wish) acknowledge that support at the conference.

About Us

Co-founded and now run by John Allsopp, Web Directions has for nearly 20 years brought together leading developers, engineers, visual, IxD, UX and product designers, Art and Creative Directors, product managers indeed everyone involved in producing web and digital products to learn from one another, and the World's leading experts across this vast field.

We spend our lives thinking about what comes next, keeping up with trends in technology, practices and processes, and filtering the hype, to make sure you don't miss trends that matter, and don't waste time on hype that doesn't.

We promise attending one of our events will leave you significantly better versed in the challenges you face day to day, and in solutions for addressing them.

Code of Conduct

For over a decade, we've worked hard to create inclusive, fun, inspring and safe events for the Web Industry.
