Video Ristretto: Warwick Cox–Web Notifications
For some years now, mostly out of sight, a set of inter-related Web technologies have been brewing away. Technologies that address the sort of shortcomings the Web has been considered to have in comparison with native technologies–the ability to integrate more seamlessly with the user’s device and operating system, the ability to work offline, and to hook into the device’s native notifications system.
And for years we’ve been covering these technologies at our events. We’ve showcased perhaps the most important of them, Service Worker a number of times (as we will be again this year at Code), and we’ll also be focussing on Web Manifests. But another key feature of what’s now become known as Progessive Web Apps is Web Notifications, which Wawrick Cox covered in detail in last year’s final-ever Web Directions engineering track.
