The all new startup track at Web Directions South
For nearly a decade, we’ve been working here at Web Directions to help build a world-class, web focussed industry and profession here in Australia. From humble beginnings, bringing together 200 web developers, we’ve grown to one of the world’s biggest and most respected web design, development and ideas focussed events.
While we’ve got a long track record supporting the Australian tech startup industry (and our own success including involvement with Typekit) Web Directions is now bringing our expertise, connections, and above all passion to helping really set a fire under the Australian technology focussed startup industry.
For the first time this year, Web Directions South features a startup focussed track. Two intense, no bullshit, pitch and demo free days focussing on the key issues facing those aspiring to start their first technology based company. Too often these questions are only faced once far too much effort has gone into a labour of passion. And as the cliche goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
In the startup track we’ll cover:
- How do you turn an idea into a business?
- Financing models – Kickstarter? Angel and Venture Funding? Bootstrapping? or some combination?
- Business models – freemium, premium, ad driven, subscription, service based?
- Incubators – Australian and US based – are they the right model for you? What are the pros and cons?
- Social responsibility at the heart of a successful startup
Featuring industry legend Derek Powazek, and local boy done good Mike Cannon-Brookes.
There’ll be no waffling, talking heads and usual suspects here, but solid experience, war stories, and learnings from successful Australian and international startups and entrepreneurs. Including Leni Mayo, Kate Kendall, Rebekah Campbell, Chris Lloyd, Kim Heras, Marcus Schappi, Anson Parker, Mick Liubinskas, Ben Duncan and many more!
All rounded off nicely with networking opportunities galore, including the opening night reception, and awesome closing night party.
Thinking of taking the plunge and starting your own technology focussed venture? Then don’t miss this year’s Web Directions South. A small investment in a big future!
Great reading, every weekend.
